This is the direct result of a (personal) challenge I've been working on for a while now: create a functional deck with
ZERO UNITS. I also tried to keep it free of Relic Weapons... but not Relics, since they're actually quite important to this deck's gameplan. I'll explain below.
First off, your win conditions are:
1)
Channel the Tempest - seems obvious; draw 3 cards and deal damage to the dome.
Always to the dome.
2)
Extract - is a lot less obvious, but you can pump it up quite a lot with
Maelstrom Bell.
3)
Amethyst Ring - yeah it's slow, and yeah it's only 1 damage per turn, but it gets there. Eventually. This deck wins with that eventually.
Next, understand how
Maelstrom Bell works here. It only has a few targets:
A) 2x
Lightning Storm -- our worst target by far, yet still a sweeper and very efficient, so we still run 2. Otherwise we struggle with super-fast aggro decks.
B) 4x
Extract -- a real wincon, with
Lifesteal!
C) 3x
Channel the Tempest -- see above.
You want it to hit either of the last two, and you really don't want it to hit Storms. It's mathematically more likely to not hit a Storm, since they're only 2 of the 9 targets. But sometimes you just have to accept RNG and keep stalling. Besides, every 2 mana you sink into any of these cards makes them substantially better later on.
Try it. It's kind of crazy, and it works more than I'd have thought. It struggles with Relic Weapons (Armory is a 95+% loss), but against units it is strong.
