Hey Folks , just wanted to say big thanks to Roshi_is_here for the deck list, I made a very small amount of changes to his list and it worked out well this weekend.
I felt the even version of the deck wasn't as good as you lose a lot of the good ramp cards and evenhanded golem looks pretty silly if you get seeds put into your deck or he gets silenced in your hand for some reason ;P
Id have to say tocus was the mvp of the deck, helped ramp to the combo and stopped other curtain calls,Silverblade Intrusions and etchings. Honourable mention goes to gnash and Grodov's Burden in the market.
Ill do a little breakdown of how the event went and my top 8 matches.
Game 1 - Against Gt100 I get rolled pretty quick , he plays a few press gangs and trickshots and even reweaved for one which I thought was a bold play at the time but it worked out well for them. I gained alot off curtain call and waystones but the damage from Gt100 was too much .
Game 2 - Gt100 has a slow start and I play tocus and ramp into a Grodov's Stranger, grab Gnash from the market to tuck some flying units, at this point Im just trying to combo off but I manage to just play big units and win through attacking. I had everything I needed but sometimes ya can just attack, ya dont always need to show off.
My game 3 against Gt100 was crazy, I still dont know how I won it, He gets me down to 4 pretty early and im on the back foot for most of the game, a few curtain calls later and were both at like 40. He is keeping up with my big units with Ijin, Walking Armory and flyinf units. I play Gnash and give him killer , return him a few times. It was so back and forth. At one point the commentary didnt like that I played a dark return at the end of my turn to get back a Gnash but I was playing around the 1 of Embargo Officer he had in the list. It would have bricked both my dark returns if he drew press gang or the officer. Props to Gt100 for the great deck he brought. It could have easily went his way this weekend , his team did a good job keeping it off the radar.
Semi Finals - Playing against Grgapm.
Game 1 was also a crazy game, they play the first ubsat and I was pretty upset not going to lie, not WhyIsalty salty but I may have slammed the desk a little. I manage to topdeck Grodov's Stranger the turn after and im just trying to stay alive. Grgapm keeps playing big units and adds some Sol's Rest to the top half. Im behind , way behind. I draw etchings and grab Grodov's Burden out of the market, I tuck an upsat but its not going to be enough, Grgapm keeps the pressure on. I have to combo or bust trying. I click the Burden and it draws and play Talir, attack with my stanger to draw a card and hit the merchant , swap a card for the champion and kill everything on his side. I needed back to back draws and hit. Always play to your outs kids , thats why they are in the deck. I was ecstatic to say the least . Abk and corey said one of the biggest comebacks ever in an ecq.
Game 2 we both have a slow start , Im just trying to stay alive and ramp and Grgapm has sorta a bad draw with 2 blightmoths not doing a whole lot and kinda the botttom half of the list to be honest. I manage to play talir and etchings in the same turn and combo off.
Finals - Ilyak1986 playing same colors but an even good stuff list without the combo. I felt pretty good about this match as long as my champions didnt get stolen from the market or my hand didnt get silenced.
Game 1 starts off with me just playing defence , not trying to run any units into an ambush just for a few damage. Ilyak was missing 5th time influence for ubsat or it would have been a much different game. I play some fatties that ramp and start setting up for the kill. Ilyak tried to slow me down but I play talir and dip into the market the same turn and combo.
Game 2 kinda the same story , Ilyak was just 1 influence off from playing ubsat first on the play , I was lucky enough to play mine and silence his 2 in hand. WIth tocus on the field Ilyak had 2 dead curtain calls in hand. I was able to find the combo and win the match.
Really fun day overall , got super lucky more then once. I had some other great matches in the day as well. Again shout out to Roshi for the list, check him out on twitch. One of the better streamers right now imo. I can't wait to play worlds!
