Updated 4/5: Includes Vara... because we're in Shadow. Also, I somehow missed that I had teched the deck way down; Aurialian cargo is not necessary.

This is a board based deck that uses the new Homecoming pledge synergies to flood the board with damage and generate card advantage with Severin, Glasshopper, and Dread. This allows you to fight for board with aggro while outlasting them in the midgame.

Also, it feels like Severin is being overlooked even in Glasshopper decks which is a shame because he does a lot for Auralian in terms of color fixing, mana cheating, and just general relic pressure. Also, if you have the Homecoming campaign, this deck is relatively budget friendly.

Unfortunately for these type of board based tempo decks, there are too many strong counterplay options, and control decks win the day in Eternal, but it's still fun to play with.

Basically, the strategy is to always mulligan for pledge with the best options being Severin for color fixing or sometimes Moonstone Vanguard if you can pull it off without sacrificing Auralian colors. Always, ALWAYS pledge turn 1. Then just hit the board as fast as possible using Cykalis to push even more damage. One thing to note is that Lethrai Hideaway is the only relic which really ties the deck together providing an extra unit, cheap buffs with Severin, a buff for the smuggler, and ultimately a win-condition with Borderscout.

I've found Cirso's Cleaver to be a surprisingly powerful finisher for this deck, so I feel like it is the most important card in the market. Beyond that you have a lot of different options, but this is my best iteration so far.

TopWraith Eternal Version: 1.45.1
I like this deck, to be honest its probably just that i like Severin himself.

Im missing 2 Cykalis, do you have opinions on alternatives? I was thinking of trying with either 2 Rhysta or 2 Zende in place of what im missing. Zende is an alternative pledge, and Rhysta helps pick up extra power.

If you have any other options please let me know.
djwarpt Eternal Version: 1.45.1
Interesting; I hadn't considered either of those options. I don't think Rhysta will work because of her lack of blocking. To get ahead of aggro, you need those blockers. For Zende, my initial reaction was that it was too greedy, but after reconsidering, I think it's a really interesting option. She provides additional card advantage, and the pledge discount is significant in this deck. I actually don't have Zende to test with, but I'd love to know if it works out for you.

Another card to substitute is 4 Vara because she seems to make every shadow deck better regardless.
TopWraith Edited Eternal Version: 1.45.1
Zende might be a bit greedy, ive had a couple games with her and havent seen the card enough to really judge, the only elves to return are the borderscouts, or dark elves from the relic. Im only testing with 2 of cykalis and 2 of zende, and now going to check with Rhysta lto see how this works.

With dread you can get back units pretty easily and both Zende and Rhysta have perks i guess, in the game i saw zende i played her after the opponent harsh ruled and then had 3 units, zende, borderscout, and dark elf back on board the turn after which worked out well in the end winning with borderscout. If playing with zende i wouldnt go any higher than 2 due to the cost

Star readers already makes things not block so Rhysta was the other option, have yet to play a game since putting her in the deck.

(wall of text, sorry!)

Edit: first impressions with Rhysta is that she goes well with the bear guard bayonet, and star reapers blade. Bayonet giving her the empower bonus and star reaper has 0 downsides, ran into my opponent with a 13/3 quickdraw, overwhelm Rhysta with some buffs from the relics. I only have 2 Rhysta but she seems to be a decent inclusion to be considered.

That's great; always interesting to see how these things actually play out. I agree that Rhysta would be a target for the Blade, so that's good, but Vara is a must. Check out the new revision; I cut Cargo for Vara, so you probably have room for both.

Also, it seems like Severin is getting more attention which is cool; Ilyon just posted new content to YouTube here:

I don't like his build very much because pledge is still too unreliable in his deck, but there may be more adjustments that can be learned. Xenan initiation looks particularly interesting because of the recursion from the Blade and Dread.
TopWraith Eternal Version: 1.45.1
Ill see how the deck goes removing the cargos from the list for vara, seems like a reasonable option, less fixing in the deck but if you can hit the colours then you should be sweet.

Since you've dropped the cargos what are your thoughts on going less on basic sigils /seats and looking into crests more? Watched the video linked and it may be worth looking at, crests could provide a decent advantage. Even just dropping one of each sigil for one of each crest, and chaning the market crest for a banner, which works well with merchants being undepleted. I also like that ilyon included the killer effects in there which helps with thr deck being highly board based, but it would be tricky to find places to cut.
djwarpt Eternal Version: 1.45.6
I agree; I couldn't find a way to adjust this deck further. I actually did try crests but had no luck because I'm already slower than aggro and losing time to depleted power made those matchups unwinnable.
silver11111 Edited Eternal Version: 1.45
Have you tried Haunting Scream instead of Lethrai Hideaway?
djwarpt Eternal Version: 1.45
No, but unfortunately I don't think that will help. The issue is with consistency of 2-drops; it's very light already and Hideaway provides some counterplay early against aggro and then more buffs later on with Severin. You just lose too much tempo without it; the same deck with Crests instead of Seals for example is much, much worse. However, if you wanted to try it, I would suggest also cutting the Borderscout (relies on synergy). You could try something like 3 Haunting Scream plus 3 of your favorite 2-drop to keep it relatively balanced instead. Ponysnatcher and Ripknife Assassin come to mind.
