I'll level with you: I'm crap at building aggro decks. So the shell of this deck is "borrowed" from WhyISalty's
Salty Brew - Aggro Surge with some tweaks to fit into Expedition. Thanks, Salty.
Now to the tech:
Friends in Low Places is one of those cards that is deceptively powerful. For 2 mana you give a unit a fighting chance in combat and a plunder. On its own, that's pretty good. But Friends rewards you for getting deep into your influence as early as possible in big ways. If you've got six Fire, this card also plays four
Rustlings. If you've got six Justice, you get to dig for a unit with a cost of 4 or less and play it. Either one of these abilities on their own are ridiculous at fast speed as a combat trick. Combined, it's downright dastardly. As much as I'd like to play this in a
Edge of Uprising deck, it's not really feasible to get that deep into two factions while pulling along a third, even with plunder. So this deck is just straight Rakano surge-themed aggro.
There are a lot of viable market access opportunities in Rakano that could give us access to the promo: it's a 2-cost, so
Blazing Salvo could fetch it, and either of the Etchings could work as well. After testing Salty's build, I'm opting to keep
Fearless Crescendo, as it's one of the only ways this deck has to keep Elysian/Auralian Flyers in check (besides just racing them to the finish line).
Surge Units:
Chainwhip Bludgeoner,
Flameheart Patroller: Self explanatory. These get big.
Emerald Crafter: Makes a big thing. Decent body, even if it is a little overcosted.
Ironthorn, Lawman: Double your pleasure, double your fun. With this guy out, you hit six influence really quick.
Surge Payoffs:
Silverblade Intrusion: Good, cheap protection. Also gives you an extra body or two.
Champion of Glory: Basic, but basic works.
Trickshot Ruffian: This guy turns tables in the late game singlehandedly.
Friends in Low Places
Market:
Ijin, Walking Armory - Dig for her once you hit six Justice, if you have the chance. She beefs up your board presence inredibly.
Shavka's Lute - Compared to Grodov's Burden, the rest of the cycle is criminally underrated. The lute gets a lot of value for this deck; most of our units are mono-colored, and we're playing a grip of them. That's a lot of warcry.
Equalize - For when things go horribly, horribly wrong. I hate having to include this card.
Touch of Force - Gives Milos some reach.
Things I wanted, but couldn't have:
Ferno, Rageborn: A little too steep on the influence cost, even for this deck. I think if any deck wants this guy, it's a mono-Fire deck, which is bad for a unit with surge.
Marley, Heroic Marshal: I love this gal. But I don't have enough to include her. Feel free to swap her out for another unit, maybe
Emerald Crafter.
Svetya, Lightbringer: I have no copies, but I also don't think she's a fit for this particular deck. I mean, this is Rakano. By the time you have 6 mana, you should either be winning or conceding.
