Welp, since ChildRoland apparently isn't giving us the latest list of his most famous brew, I decided to rebuild it and see how it plays. Moral of the story: moar cards, moar beatsticks, moar wins. And Darya's deadly + HotV's or Xo's direct damage leads to funny interactions.
Unlike my AP ramp, which I think was a fairly new innovation, I think this list is fairly self-explanatory. Core is obviously your Praxis midrange beatdown, with all units surviving gun down. Here are the new inclusions:
Xo: we've seen him be an all-star in just about any fire deck, as he's a fatty that replaces himself. In a deck with Darya, who can give him deadly, it also means he can wipe boards since a single ping from a deadly Xo kills a unit. Oh, and then he domes your opponent for 12. It isn't as much of a magical christmasland as you think. Untap with Xo -> power -> amplify with Darya -> kill an enemy unit with the treasure trove. Obviously gets a lot better with 10+ power.
Darya with overwhelm units is obviously phenomenal, curving Xo into her is hilarious, dark returning deadly berserk HotV is obnoxious, makes teachers of humility trade up later in the game. Praxis mid should probably run 4, but in dark heart, 3 should suffice.
Sabotage: not a new set 5 card, but I never saw childroland run this. Sometimes, your opp has more removals than you have sabos and fatties combined. But when they don't, and you take out a critical piece of removal, people start to die quickly once they can't answer a big "do-nothing fatty".
Removal suite: 4 torch is a duh, then purifies are extra copies, as you're essentially weakest early on when you're setting up a 3F power base. Maindeck banishes take out avigrafts allowing you to remove locks, and you have an additional one in the market. A pair of ICBs rounds out the suite for tagging cards you otherwise can't deal with, but I hate 4-cost removal in general.
Market: choice of 5 drops from the Auralian ramp depending on the influence you're hitting, choice of interaction, and lategame carnosaur to 2 for 1 just about anything in the format.
So yeah, not sure how well the deck is actually positioned in the format, but the idea is that a deck that throws a bunch of HotVs at someone can only be so bad. So, take it out for a spin, see how you like it, and let me know which changes you decide to make.
Did you give killer effects a try? if so, what made you cut them?
Pretty much steamrolled my opponents.
- Quarry would work in this deck I think, atleast for me.
- Would swap Carnosaur with Xenan Initiation, or Cykalis.
- Cykalis and Darya combo with return from void seems interesting, and atleast you get to attack before waiting a turn to have a unit being removed.
