This is an experiment to see how functional a faction-less deck can be. We Are just starting to get enough card variance for something like this to be feasible, so I wanted to see how many workable strategies I could find within such a tight pool of cards.
The deck works best when you go out of your way to gain no influence at all, although you can selectively choose to gain influence at some point, in order to make
Veteran Mercenary to trigger. I find that Justice is the most consistent at giving you a useful card. That being said, it's better to have a 7/7
Prism Golem than a random card from Veteran most of the time. I didn't add
Petition to early versions of the deck, but it turned out to be a great card even in a deck like this. I found that most of the time I got power with Seek and Wrath, Petition can specifically target your two best lands, and either be a 4/1 for 2 (as early as turn 2) or a way into reducing the cost of your top 5 cards by 1.
The deck has so many Non-mbos so you need to be careful how you sequence cards. I tried
Grand Suppressor in the main deck, but it was so effective at shutting our own deck down, that it becomes frustrating. The deck really does have some amazing first 4 turns depending on the sequence of cards drawn.
There are lots of improvements to be made over time, I'm not saying that this deck will help you climb the ladder. But I would say that I have about a 40% win rate and can take it through the Gauntlet often enough to make this a quirky deck that is enjoyable. I suspect that this type of deck might be something we could see work better after a few more sets are released.
Edit: Updating to latest list. Trying to rely less on summon abilities, so that suppressor can be played in the main deck.
