Be gone for a shadow splash while still having insignias is pretty sweet.

Have you considered using the new grafters instead of merchants? You wouldn't be able to activate them on combo turns, but workshop forge is enough to make them free even without a trickster mage, and you can still get some market cards on the combo turn with time etchings.
