The ShiftstonedEternal Power Calculator is a deck-building tool that visualizes your odds of drawing enough Influence and Power based specifically on the cards found in your deck.
Thank you for this deck. I've been looking for a deck that plays control but not cheap. I just started playing about 8 months ago and prefer aggro (and mill, at least mill in MTG), but this deck has been a total delight to play. Thank you again, so easily accessible for new players that don't have all the cards
The nerf to Jotun Hurler doesn't seem to harm this deck too much. Would it be better, if possible, to replace the Hurler with Feast caller? The aegis seems nice plus you get a card on attack, though there is some lost value in not being able to throw away snowball to the market or use it against things like hojan.
That's a weird replacement. Hurler is a 1 mana removal with a free card/random body for Honor/Merchant Feastcaller is a random Midrange 5 drop. I don't see the analogy here. So like us aid the change doesnt matter that much here and hurler is the only card that does all the jobs it does.
Lots of rats running around, I have a hard time fighting them, even with harsh rule and vision of austerity (which dies to banish).
I guess you should always have an Unseal/Eilyn's choice ready
If I don't have jennev merchant can I just replace it with the cards in the market? I'm guessing it wont be as good because then I'll have to draw into them rather than having the market option
You could do that, but as you stated, you have to draw into them, making it extremely unreliable. You also forgo the benefit of having a body on your board, even if it's only as a blocker to delay till you get your Vanquish/Harsh Rule.
ManuS, you have really outdone yourself this time. This is probably my favorite deck of yours I've played, and I've played quite a few. Perhaps MTGA is honing your Eternal deckbuilding skills! :D
Part of my criteria for playing is to have fun. I'd rather lose and enjoy the game than win all the time. This deck is very fun, many interesting decisions, and its done pretty well for me in the Gold rank. I just hit diamond with it, which is always a different playing field. As usual with Manu's decks, the power base is absolutely smooth as butter. The Privilege of Rank and Honor of Claws combo helps, and frequently I have excess power, which can be traded in with Martyr's Chains. For a game that needs to make it to the late game, it is shocking how well it handles staying alive against aggro. Defiance, Eilyn's Choice and Stormhalt Knife do a great job at keeping you alive. Mix Throne Warden with knife and you can easily take out chumps until you pull a Harsh Rule.
I switched out "Brilliant Idea" in the market for "Scourge of Frosthome" and I'm completely shutting down most decks. There's enough card draw that by the time I was able to use Brilliant Idea it's usually in a situation where I've already won or I need to draw one specific card to not lose.
I did the same thing with taking out Brilliant Idea, but I swapped in Clutch of Talons instead. Since you do not have many units, you can amplify all your power away and it can become a great finisher, especially with palace.
I put in the 4th Palace (switched in a 3rd Auric Hammer) in the market. I kept looking for a threat to play when I've finally cleared the board v. Jennev decks, and having palace+unit as a package at 8 mana has been so good at turning the corner quickly (before they can topdeck HotV). But I'm guessing you had a reason for not splitting Palaces?
Your market tends to be your "These will swing the game" cards and I encounter enough flier and deadly units that it's very likely you'll never get the full benefit out of Palace. All the other sites have an immediate hard to counter offensive card (with the exception of Ijin's Workshop) that works to protect the site.
Palace is more board stall than the others. Which is what you want for control but not for the market.
I guess that could work. the reason not to was i only want one high impact card in the market to maximize utility/answers for more narrow things and i definitely wanted a brilliant idea as a way to just put away the game by drawing a lot of cards. so i think if u do that u prolly have to cut idea and if the deck is good enough without great if not id stick to what i had before since running both int he market is a waste of market space and utility. i felt palace is not generating the same level of advantage in most spots as an idea for 4-6+ cards does in a control deck. outcarding ur opponent is how u win with control. what u kill them with eventually is trivial. things that mostly kill ur opponent are bad because they dont help ur gameplan. palace is kidna in between since it also draws cards and makes a unit but it just isnt that much. merchant into palace seems great for a midrange strategy but for a control deck it seems pretty medium. palace is more like a better vital arcana in this deck than anything else.
I love me some JPx Control. Are you happy with the full playset of Palace? We don't really have a lot of units to use with it and it feels like I get extra copies rotting in my hand.
At first I wasn't sold on the palaces, but as you mentioned in the video, it is a great way to stall your opponent. They will waste a turn going after the palace, and frequently it gives me the breathing room necessary to pull ahead.
yeah i mean it draws cards and gains life. vital arcana was nerfed because it gained too much life. this can do so much more than gain 4+ life for 1 power seems good. just gotta look at it the right way.
Haven't tried it yet, but I like what's going on here. I'm not convinced about knife though, seems kinda slow and underpowered. And with only 2 hammers, seems like this deck will struggle against Vargo when it doesn't draw it. Hammer seems to be in a good spot right now in the current meta, any reason not to just play more?
This is surprisingly cheap considering multiple campaign cards. only 1 non campaign legendary which means new players could potentially access this pretty quickly
