Lethrai Soothsayer absolutely atrocious especially when combined with your
Whispering Wind and premo bolts. I've scrapped the
Eilyn, Queen of the Wilds idea for now because games are way too pressure heavy. Swapped for
Auric Runehammer in market because it yields more control.
Sodi, Wingbreaker is also amazing in midrange/control as both a flying killer and consistent draw.
Vanquish is so much better in control right now than
Annihilate. I spent a lot of time trying to make S/P work as control but in this format almost none of the real aggro bombs are single-faction. Shadow having no hard removal below 4 power really made it clunky and mostly unworkable. Also
Defiance makes a much better single power removal than
Suffocate in a format with god awful big little guys, such as
Hojan, Crownbreaker and
Highland Sharpshooter after her first weapon. I'll get off my soapbox but the point is the low-cost removal in Justice far outclasses shadow in the present format.
Onto the rest of the deck. I play 4x
Royal Decree because
Icaria, the Liberator is ridiculous and running rampant through the format and even against anything else it's still a game altering card.
Permafrost should be obvious and pretty much vital in any control or midrange build that includes the primal faction.
I replaced
Herald's Song with
Hojan, Crownbreaker. Hojan gives you a way to gain life and can escalate, but most importantly he can get power if really needed and creates the onslaught trigger you need so desperately on a more consistent basis. I may consider playing
Finest Hour in the deck. Haven't been convinced it's needed yet.
I play
Pristine Light in the market and
Harsh Rule in the main deck because pristine light is conditional - soft removal. PL can be amazing and utterly game changing and that's why it's right there in your market. If the gamestate requires it grab it. Be smart.
Most often with
Rime Conclave Smuggler I'm grabbing
Reclaim first and I'll either copy him into more trades or leave it alone depending on gamestate. Yes I'm aware that
Harsh Rule wipes your board too but sometimes aggro just makes way too many dudes. Ex: sanguar queen, stonescar, and other make-a-lot of dudes builds. My favorite play with it earlier was casting against a full stonescar board complete with
Tasbu, the Forbidden. They drew 6 cards and ate 12 damage. The point is it's control/midrange lol. There are reasons for board wipes.
The best advice I can give anyone for playing midrange or control is your removal isn't there to wipe every single guy that hits the board - that's what board wipes are for. So don't get caught up trying to permafrost and defiance every little minion that hits the field. Be smart and prevent your opponent from taking control of the game from you. I'm still in the process of reworking so I'll let you guys know.
Anyway feel free to leave comments if you have ideas or suggestions. It IS still a work in progress, though every game I've cleared 4 power without being flooded, I've won. Thanks for checking it out!
