I was intrigued by leejtr's post with the power ramping, and he himself said it was a little unpolished. By no means is this perfect either, but it's my interpretation. Some differences from his list:
*I'm running
Charchain Flail over
Flame Blast. Usually picking off key blockers is relevant and here you get the benefit of armor + damage versus just damage. The inability to just not go face is somewhat relevant, but in a midrange deck like this, it's usually a better trade off.
Copper Conduit could be another consideration, as I think both are better than Flame Blast for long term value, which is what this deck is trying to achieve.
*I'm running
Blazing Salvo over
Auralian Merchant. This lets me grab a
Reactor Forge out of the market if I have a hand that's going to go big, and lets me grab
Detonation Cannon if I'm choking on an abundance of power to go face. Plus it picks off early yetis and Kiras. Also, if you are choking on dead cards, you can grab a
Rust Grafter then use that to swap a 2nd card out to get maximum market value. Factory quota is good against some of the shadow decks that play modest lifegain.
*As mentioned in the original posting, running
Xenan Obelisk over
Clock of Stolen Hours just looked like a pure upgrade, but I'm honestly not even convinced it belongs in the deck at all. I wanted a couple more cards that would just cash in on some of the power grabs this deck makes. First off, I added 2 Onoris Roa's, which shields the deck from hailstorm related tricks and with spare mana puts the game out of reach. If you trigger Crimson Firemaw on him, you can play him for 0 then amp 2 for whatever you have, usually gaining 10-20 life, which is more than enough for most races. Then, I wanted something that was the grand prize and I don't think there's a better option than
Kairos, Grand Champion. With the other creatures, drawing 4 off his summon is far from unlikely, and blazing into a reactor forge or taking the turn after Yushkov's trigger can ramp you into him pretty quickly.
Overall, I think the deck pairs against most of the field pretty well. The heavy control/artifact decks can be a modest pain and Sling can provide some hiccups, but even then a high powered Inferno Den or Kairos can do some wonders.
