Two parts Rakano Aggro, one part Unseen battle skills, mix it all together while yelling
"Bootlicker!", then bake for 15 minutes.
April started with a fresh format with the addition of
Whispers of the Throne, and
Milos, Rebel Bomber looked like a fun new card to try. The Rakano aggro shell that's been around since the
Spring QCP Challenge tournament seemed like a good starting point, but Milos' Charge and Overwhelm, along with the double battle skills on cards like
Crownwatch Paladin and
Thunder of Wings's dragon, made the "battle skills matter" synergies with
Unseen Commando and
Master's Blade seem too good to pass up.
I just ranked into Masters after a few days running the same 75+5, climbing from Gold 3 in 75 games with a 70% average winrate. This was a first pass at the deck (though built on others' strong foundation) so I'm sure it can use some tweaking, but I'm happy with the results so far. I probably won't work much more on the list, with two Throne events this month, but let me know if the comments how it works for you!
A couple notes on the card choices:
As I trimmed down the list from my initial pile of interesting cards, I chose to stick with the aggressive early drops (Akko, Kazuo, Shenr-Ra, and Varret) without double battle skills, rather than focusing more on those synergies. I could have used less individually powerful early units (ex.
Ghostblade Outcast,
Hotblood Barbarian,
Shavka Evangel), or bigger mid-game threats like
Eclipse Dragon. I haven't tested those versions of the deck, but they could be worth looking into. Master's Blade or Commando with those Berserk units could be especially strong.
The
Fearless Crescendo/3-cost market over a
Blazing Salvo/2-cost one may be a controversial choice, as the Salvo market has proven to be powerful in other decks. I suggested testing both versions. My theory with the Crescendo was to provide evasion to close out games, while sometimes giving the second battle skill to an
Ash Elemental, a Mastery-upgraded Shenra or Varret, or a relic-weapon-triggered Kazuo.
Most of the market cards have proven powerful enough, though I may have snagged more games from the surprise factor of having a 3-cost market in the first place, rather than the strength of the market itself. One card I never used was
Shavka's Lute. It was supposed to be a marketable
Obliterate for extra reach, but I always had better things to do or didn't have the power to Spellcraft it.
The
Press the Advantage could also probably be replaced. It only mattered in a couple games, and it isn't that easy to trigger with only a couple Oni in the deck. I figured either it or
Draconic Ire (only triggered by the Thunder token) would be a 'free' Bargain spell, even it they don't trigger often, but the slot may be better as a dedicated card to fetch with your market spell.
For Varret, Teething Whelp might be fine. Shavka Evangel could be really good with a Master's Blade on it, especially since both Berserk and Reckless count to buff it.
He's also there to fill out the # of aggressive 2/1s for 1. You could use something like Ruthless Stranger in the slot, which has the added bonus of buffing each other/Varrets.
