This deck started out as a super budget control deck with tobs of Aegis effects. I had so much fun with it that I've invested some resources into it. The deck is still very much a work in progress.
And, though there's like a million rares, there is ONLY ONE LEGENDARY. It also makes excellent use of the newest promo card,
Garden of Omens.
There's a ton of removal and anti-aggro tools, but the real crux of the deck is in its toolbox nature. Your first card out of the market is almost always
Garden of Omens, which you ideally play when it won't get blown up immediately. Once the coast is clear, use its
Resurface proc to search for whatever you need — there's plenty of removal in the deck, all of which is good for different things.
OR you can fetch the one-of
Rise to the Challenge to fetch any of your units or a Duelist's Blade. The biggest strength of this deck is its flexibility — the right answers to the right questions, and the best questions that can't be answered!
The two most common modes for
Display of Honor are the lifesteal & size buff to swing combat / stay alive and the goat polymorph. It's an incredibly flexible way to keep alive against aggro or permantly remove huge creature or Makto, the Inquisitor.
But! You can also retrieve a lost
Duelist's Blade or two. This is especially powerful if you've played a
Throne Warden while wielding the blade, as this permanently increases the weapon's armor value. That, paired with the Aegis, makes you very hard to kill. Did I mention I don't like dying?
The
Eclipse Dragon is excellent to apply pressure while maintaining power for removal or card draw.
Mokhnati, Restored either kills your opponent or refills your hand when you're on empty, and Icaria is the quintessential finisher.
As the game drags on, a
Jennev Merchant can grab your
Re-read to reuse any spell you've played this game, including your one-of
Rise to the Challenge!
Other cards I want as one-ofs to search for are
Honor of Claws for powerful draw after sticking your
Garden of Omens and
Poaching Drake for a threat/polymorph in one card. It'll be a 6/3 flyer when found via
Rise to the Challenge, so it'll hit hard!
Try not to play your dragons into removal if you can avoid it. Anytime you draw a card you don't need yet, toss it back to the bottom (to be fetched later!) with
Strategize.
Feel free to ask questions or offer suggestions! I'm very excited to see how this deck will grow.
