The deck I bring is centered at replaying
Edge of Prophecy. It is definitely a very fun deck to play.
Card breakdown
12 merchants are used to enhance the consistency.
Auralian Merchant is arguably the best merchant, and
Winchest Merchant has good stats in the air. I choose
Red Canyon Smuggler over the
Pearl Abbey Smuggler for the possiblity to grab
Xo of the Endless Hoard out of the market in the late game. I haven't tested
Pearl Abbey Smuggler yet, but I can see that being very good. With all the spells in the deck, it can grow very big quickly. (A 2/2 split between these two may be a good idea as well.) Another upside for
Pearl Abbey Smuggler is that you may run
Nahid's Distillation in the market.
Unearth the Past and
Disjunction grab your sword back from void. Try not to kill opponent's attachment with
Disjunction unless it is necessary or you have too many in hand and don't need to swap any cards with your market. The effects of redrawing your sword grow exponentially. I run two full playset of these cards with a copy of
Strange Blacksmith in the market. Redrawing my sword is mostly not a problem.
Touch of Purity is a key I found while testing this deck. Your health will reduce little by little every time your sword breaks. You are also very likely to take a lot of damage while building your combo. Giving your sword lifesteal allows you to hit all those midrange monsters with ease. Note that
Touch of Purity need a target to play. So play it in response to your opponent's killing your only unit. Giving the sword in hand lifesteal is all that matters. This card is also the reason why the market is more focusing on Justice cards.
Xo of the Endless Hoard and
Find the Way create card advantage for decks exploiting the market.
Antique Polisher reduce the cost of your sword. The first reduction from 7 to 5 makes a very big difference. The second reduction also does something, but the third one is usually meaningless. Most of my third reduction happens when I have tons of power to use anyway. I can see running 2-4
Antique Polisher. I currently run 3 so that they don't cluster in my hand but come often enough to speed up my game. Note that the cost reduction is not neccesory, because this deck can definitely get to 7 power very easily.
Cards that help you survive:
Defiance,
Pristine Light,
Harsh Rule, and
Stormhalt Knife. All these cards can be tuned for your like. These cards are also the first choice to swap with cards in the market when I find myself confortable surviving without them.
Shen-Ra Speaks in the market not only help you survive, but also help finishing the game. Your sword will have more attack than your opponent's remaining life when you redraw your sword 2-3 times. A decimated
Shen-Ra Speaks is gameover for your opponent at that point.
Find the Way,
Pillar of Progress, and
Display of Creation are the ramping cards. Note that
Display of Creation can also silence and reducing attacking units' attack. It is great against decks that goes wide. You can stall for a turn with it, break some aegis, and then wrath the board afterwards. The last mode has never been used.
For the market, I am pretty happy with the
Strange Blacksmith. It not only serves as an option to grab your sword back, but also help killing small units to clear the way for your sword. The
Avigraft is the spot I am still tuning. For the about 8 games I played with it, it haven't made any use yet. I was thinking to hit the opponent's merchant or some key ground creatures like
Jekk, Mercenary Hunter. I used to run
Xulta Arcanum. A big upside is that it can be grabbed by
Auralian Merchant. But I feel it only helps me finishing a winning game more quickly. Another idea I have is
Rizahn, Greatbow Master, but I haven't tested it yet.
Notes on piloting
It's not an easy deck to pilot, because you need to make decisions on which card to switch with which card in the market all the time.
The key concept of piloting this deck is simple. Kill early creatures, grab your sword, give it lifesteal, and swing with it several times. But it takes a lot of thinking on when to do which. Feel free to stun a high cost unit with
Defiance because a turn or two is sometimes all you need to build your sword, not to mention that you can wrath the board later.
Display of Creation has the option to silence and shrink all attacking units.
You need to keep in mind that you need to go to 7 power unless you have an
Antique Polisher in hand, in which case you can work with only 5 power. Don't swap too many powers into the market.
As a combo deck, it is fragile to hate cards. Cards that kills relics don't matter as you are redrawing your sword with bigger stats anyway.
Vision of Austerity and
Burglarize are unbeatable. Concede when you see one played on your sword. These cards are usually not in the main, so killing their first merchant with
Avigraft can be helpful (at least in theory, I haven't encountered such a game yet). You do have another finisher
Xo of the Endless Hoard but 8 cost 6/6 flyer is usually not a big problem.
Against Primal deck,
Royal Decree and
Rain of Frogs can hit your sword in hand. So don't grab your sword from your void unless you can play it right away. For example, you can play
Disjunction at end of the your opponent's turn to play it right afterwords.
Adjudicator's Gavel is more annoying than I thought while building the deck. I was thinking with 4x
Disjunction in the main, I would have no problem killing it. But you may not have enough time looking for it. So maybe when facing a Justice deck, save one
Disjunction for this void hate and use other options to grab your sword back first.
Even though not a hate card against relics,
Silverblade Menace is very annoying as well. It deals 10+ damage easily against you.
Kudos to you if you finish reading this article! This is my first time posting a decklist here. Hope you like it.
