Black Market Kennadin.
If you're unfamiliar with the way Kennadin plays, it revolves around abusing
Combustion Cell with
End of Hostilities and
Kenna, Shaman of the Scale. Playing a tributed EoH on Kenna gives you 2 7/8 Killers, a 7/8 flyer, your EoH back immediately, and 1 other spell from your void.
Great End of Hostilities targets include:
Rizahn, Greatbow Master,
Vara, Vengeance-Seeker,
Inquisitor Makto,
Heart of the Vault, merchants. Even smaller targets like
Teacher of Humility,
Cykalis, the Burning Sand,
Valkyrie Enforcer,
Gorgon Fanatic, etc can have a strong impact considering you can retrieve your EoH back with Kenna.
Strengths/Weaknesses
-Strong against current meta decks (FJS, TP aggro, and FJ aggro).
-Weak to heavy control/peak decks (FTP, FP, FPS).
-Weak against Endurance (Plate, SST, Tavrod)
Changes from the classic lists (like isomorphic's):
- Black Market:
Ixtun Merchant and
Howling Peak Smuggler can both access all cards of the market. This means 8 possible draws can get you any market card, like
Combustion Cell.
-
Jotun Hurler and
Xo of the Endless Hoard are great for all the markets and the
Snowball can often deal 2 or 3 damage with
Howling Peak Smuggler. These provide tremendous card advantage.
-
Howling Peak doesn't need much introduction. Usually mirrors a merchant and can often deal 6 and 3 damage with
Howling Peak Smuggler, 7 and 4 if you mirror the smuggler first.
(an added benefit that you only need 1 copy)
-
Combustion Cell is a bit fragile, in that you only have one, so
Eilyn's Favor and
Kaleb's Choice can help protect it. I've really been enjoying
Kaleb's Choice in general, with all the relics and weapons around. The counter frequently finds good targets as well, such as
Harsh Rule,
Vanquish,
Annihilate,
Rain of Frogs,
Sword of the Sky King,
Auric Runehammer,
Disciplinary Weights,
Eternity Core, and many more.
Market:
-
Combustion Cell is obviously necessary.
-
Skycrag Banner,
Molot & Nakova, and
Howling Peak are very strong picks that would be hard to go without.
- The 5th slot is more flexible. I've added
Bore to the market because I was running into a lot of
Deepforged Plate, which is a hard counter to this deck. Other options could be:
Flamestoker,
Brilliant Idea,
Burn Them All,
Cauldron Cookbook.
General Tips:
- Opening hand will ideally contain a merchant, torch/permafrost, and some card draw or Hurler.
- Keep a grenadin in-hand if possible. Don't throw them all down if you think your opponent might have a way to clear the board. You can often play a grenadin and combust it immediately for a Tribute.
- Wisdom on turn 3 over playing a merchant, unless you need a body and have a good card to trade (Hurler / Xo). Do this at the end of your opponent's turn, to feint having a combat trick, especially if you actually have a Torch or Kaleb's Choice.
- Play Ixtun Merchant over the Smuggler if you aren't ready to use the +1 Spell Damage.
- Generally, use
End of Hostilities before
Kenna, Shaman of the Scale, especially if the opponent has a decent target. You will get it back after playing Kenna on the next turn.
- Be mindful of your Fire influence if you're getting ready to play Molot or Xo. You'll almost never have issues with Primal but Fire can be tricky on occasion. It's rarely decided a game for me though.
- This deck plays
very reactively. Don't drop Kenna without a target, as it will likely get removed, unless you're using her tribute to get back a needed card or if your opponent is low on cards. If you can play her on 9 power while holding/fetching Kaleb's Choice, that can be a good play to avoid Vanquish, Annihilate, Harsh Rule.
Current Record / Matchups:
(There was a lot of experimenting in the 90 games pre-masters)
It scares me too lol. Eilyn's and Kaleb's do a decent job of protecting it and I like the extra room in the main deck (always hated drawing extra cells and this version actually has 1 additional chance to draw it). You have to be careful of when you play it, depending on what deck you're facing. Face aegis mainly helps against hand disruption, burn, and Avigraft. Kaleb's against Bore and many other potential spells/relics/weapons.
It does occasionally get destroyed though, which makes the match tough but it's not over. There are plenty of Snowballs and Torches for triggering tribute as well.
And don't forget to take advantage of the +1 spell damage on the Smuggler. This can make Snowballs VERY useful. They can target Sites as well.
Best of luck!
