Update 7/11:
Johnkkez is playing a take on this deck at Worlds! Best of luck! Their version cuts Cookbook from the market for
Adjudicator's Gavel and one of each smuggler for 2 copies of Hidden Road Smuggler.

This is an update on my
(Pre-buff) Brel and Icaria FJS, an FJS control/midrange build I did just before
Icaria, the Liberator was returned to 7 cost. It ran Brel and Icaria as dual top-ends in the market and worked in some relic weapons (
Auric Runehammer and
Stormhalt Knife) which are already good control/mid cards for added synergy.
I mostly wanted to play those two legendaries for fun, but now that Icaria is back to her former glory (and after two *more* prominent nerfs elsewhere in the deck), I definitely think FJS should be playing 3-4 of her maindeck.
Brel, Solist Apostate happens to play well with a lot of the same cards Icaria does, and having 4 of a 7-cost top end maindeck and 1 alternative in the market is great for consistent access to your most valuable cards in a 7-8 merchant deck. Icaria is your main top-end and the raw value she produces often finishes off games. Whereas Icaria can be dropped mostly any time, Brel is best when fit to a specific situation (unit to remove with the weapon, your own relic weapon to buff, or enemy has no answer to relic weapon for repeated face-bashing), so it's great to have 8 access points to her without drawing her at random. The similarities between the two 7-drops make them valuable in the same deck, but their differences reward splitting them between maindeck and market, making the whole deck a lot smoother now. Both are nuts with
Display of Ambition.
I found I simply ran out of gas far more than a deck of this style can afford, so I adjusted to an all-fire market (-3
Hidden Road Smuggler, +3
Cen Wastes Smuggler) to include
Cauldron Cookbook and better capitalize on juggling
Xo of the Endless Hoard for card advantage. This has paid off immensely so far - I am 19-7 since the switch - and I think I will be sticking with it; the deck's ability to go long is transformed. One perk is being able to play
Bore and fetch it with all of your merchants, useful because
Sediti, the Killing Steel is so good against this deck.
If you try it, let me know how it works out for you and what changes you like!
