I am a huge fan of
Rat Cage. And as a result, I hate the
Cabal Scavenger/
Rift Siphon/
The Throne Room deck more than I can possibly describe. I swear it makes sense. It goes like this: why play literally any other Cage deck, because this one is better? As soon as you start tuning your list, you start putting in more cards from this one until you're basically back at square one.
Why am I bringing this up in a completely unrelated decklist? Simply because I accidentally discovered that Spellysian Jarrall absolutely frickin'
bodies that list, and I have never had a better time on the ladder in my life taking apart the object of my hatred.
So it turns out that, when your deck mostly consists of 1 cost units that give disproportionate value in your shell,
Equivocate is a huge pain, along with all of our other transforms. You add a metric ton of ping spells on top to clear away rats and other X/1s, your own value engines with
Plunk Wumpkin and
Dinosaur Nest, and easy access to
Trials and Tribulations, and you've got yourself a pretty great matchup. Not to mention
Mandatory Retirement to turn bothersome relics into an X/1 that you'll probably ping for free. You would think
Street Urchin would tear us a new one, but honestly we're usually too fast, and we can always transform it away.
For all other matchups, we've just got good synergy.
Master Conjurer pumps our influence and pumps out fliers, and
Jarrall Ascending grabs us spells and gets more value out of them. Thanks to all the good Snowball generators,
Wump & Mizo can transform pretty fast. And it's also a Dinosaur, so hello
Dinosaur Nest.
Derry Cathain, Ripclaw Rider also picks up value there while giving you a peek at your opponent's hand.
Have fun! Long live Cage, down with Scavenger!
How's it doing vs Kira?
