I've been playing some form of stonescar dragons in expedition for a while, then updated my list with
Tattoo Dragon and
Pale Rider's Timepiece after taking inspiration from VirginMary's list from ECQ: Aftershock. Made it to early masters this month (April) mostly off the back of this list (a dash of Skycrag Dragons as well). The deck looks to leverage
Dragon Forge to find the right dragon for the job. This is why there are a variety of situational 7-drop dragons. These become unwilling market fodder for
Blazing Salvo in a pinch.
Stonescar packs a lot of removal relative to other factions in expedition, part of the reason I wanted to brew a control list in those colors.
Defile and
Eremot's Designs can sometimes get extra value when your opponent has their
Traver's Farm or
Spellbound Vestige up, make sure to check unit costs!
I updated the list for the new expedition, but not by much. I'm trying out
Blightmoth but
Eremot's Designs is what you usually want against aggro. Definitely some upside against the sacrifice lists, and having multiple board wipes is good for that matchup.
Unlike it's Skycrag counterpart, Stonescar Dragons doesn't have the luxury of cost reduction on your expensive dragons outside of tutoring them up with
Dragon Forge, so naturally drawing your 7-drops is sometimes unfortunate.
It probably doesn't need to be said, but a great power play (when you don't need to spend a removal on turn 3) is Dragon Forge into turn 4
Eclipse Dragon, into Dragon Forge on your opponent's turn. So much value. You could certainly argue this is a midrange, but it is definitely on the control-y end of midrange if so.
Updated for Shadows of the Spire release. And by that I mean it's still working with no changes, got early Masters (May) already mostly off the back of this.
Icaria, First Reaper can make some hands awkward, forcing you to discard a second
Cremate after you've sent her to the void forever, but it's not typically back-breaking.
Open Contract could be a consideration, but being slow is a hindrance even though it does synergize with
Defile.
Looking to make some changes for the new meta, but it's functioning decently well. Stonescar still has a plethora of removal, access to the best market spell, and strong tempo plays (it can't be overstated how good
Eclipse Dragon is). Notably
Blightmoth is strong with
Eremot's Machinations running around, as well as some Shadow lists running
Vara, Fate-Touched for late game reanimation. Voidbound removal and toughness-reducing effects I think are a premium.
