Hello Everyone! It's Xanhras and welcome to my Spire shadow Auralian deck :)
If my name doesn't ring a bell well that's pretty normal: i'm a player that doesn't usually post anything .
Before explaining why i'm here, let me excuse myself if i make some english mistakes, it's not my primary language.
So I'm a "for fun" player with some experiences in a lot of cards game (I did some magic, heartstone, eternal, shadowverse and so on...) and I think i'm not a bad deckbuilder (if I learned something it's that deckbuilding is often hard for a lot of players ). I like to build deck that are fun to play or with funny concept but that can also be competitive with good winrates
This deck is a take on a known archetype : spire shadows.
Long story short, spire shadows is a spell that swaps the attacks and cost of every unit in your deck (and only your deck this is important) making this one filled with bombs and value tools. Usually, in topdeck wars or even in terms of tempo you win.
So what make this version different from others?
- Well, after making this deck I checked this site to see what other people did with the card (when i saw it i was sure a lot of people did something because it had so much potential...) and while i saw a lot of idea, a lot of them seemed... Well, not so good to say so (except those of a person named ArrowOfKira and another one who included Shimmerpack which i really liked). Their decks had one big problem: refueling. There was nothing to keep up the pace in long match and if you didn't finished in mid game, all the mana you cheated by changing your cards cost seemed useless (plus for some of them, even when i searched through a lot, their decks didn't seem to have any solid win condition....)
That's why this deck is an auralian version. Blue let us play some pretty good value tool like
Shadowlands Borderscout (i honestly think this card is being slept on in spire archetype: it can be pledged if it is in our opening hand and it forces the opponent to react to it. I also like
Archive Curator because silence on a minion is really hard to react to and can clear the way for our fly units, giving us an alternate wincon or just defend ourself against fly units). The four stars of the deck in term of fuel are:
Grenahen ,
Shadowlands Borderscout Explorer Emeritus and of course,
Unraveler of Destinies
this deck also has few influence/power problem cause it runs 4
Seek Power and 3 plunder effect with
Desert Alchemist (which also happens to be an anti aggro card) as well as 4 pledge with
Shadowlands Borderscout and one inscribe with
Chronostorm. Scouting effect from the powers should also help mitigate bad draws.
Wretched Rats is also fantastic because in this version, there is a lot of good target for the card effect (like snapyx, Arach, Shadowlands Borderscouts or even the ambush cards. And his aiblity alone allow Arach and borderscout to be played even without spire. It's also a pretty good anti aggro card as it has lifesteal and give it to another thing in hand.
Deafening Stampede is in my opinion one of the strongest (if not the strongest) card in the entire game. This card is reaaally nuts and i feel that it's gonna be nerfed pretty soon. It's also our primary win condition as it allows us to bypass any kind of board should the game goes on a little bit. If this card is nerfed, I will change the wincon by Sol's rest and the charge relic to have a similar effect.
Having 8 merchant in the deck means that we will have two or three (sometime four) access to the market in each game, meaning that every choice in it should be useful and impactful in a lot of situation.
So to talk about the market:
Spire Shadows The only purpose of this deck is to cast spire shadows as soon as possible. However, against very aggressive strategies, i recommand going for
Chronostorm as your first market choice instead, as this deck is not so bad against aggro without spire (it's still not good tho so still try to cast spire if you can after gaining time) and they tend to use their fuel very quickly leaving you more time to setup. Aggro is still the biggest problem of the deck so be careful.
Chronostorm is a good tempo card to counter aggressive strategies, i tried
End Of An Era but the fact that chronostorm cost 4, target creatures that can cost more than 3, doesn't target our board AND can be inscribed to fix time influence problem makes it a better option if you ask me (as relic and site with cost 3 or less are often not really impactful or too slow). Putting back cards in our opponent hand is not so dangerous when all you need to do is stall for some time.
Deafening Stampede: Well i talked about it earlier, this card is insane and is our primary wincondition. Honestly i don't know what went in dev head when they designed it. I found
Fall to Ruin more fair and it's already a pretty good card....
Supply Lines allow us to have thick creature really fast thanks to
Arach, Razorshaper and
Gentle Grazer (which sometime can high roll and fetch himself). It is important to note that Arach is buffed in stat and start his summoning effect AFTER leaving you with more than 4 buffed token if your supply lines relic is online. Don't hesitate to play Supply Lines only when you have a good follow up like arach on the same turn if you suspect relic destruction. As it's very unlikely for the opponent to play a relic destruction spell and to wipe your board with 7 or 8 mana and even tho, it would leave him defenseless for a stampede follow up.
Reset the Day is a good refuel card should you be out of fuel after casting spire (if your opponent forced you to play a lot by being aggressive for example). Symetric effect should be a problem in a lot of deck but not there as you know that your 7 cards will very often be better than your opponent's.
Replacement propositions:
If you think that
Archive Curator is a bad card (and it's kinda true) you could replace it with
Huntmaster Vikrum or
Dizo, Cabal Racketeer which are really dangerous cards for some strategies.
If you face a lot of mill deck,
Reset the Day could be swapped with
Talir's Unwinding.
Finally, if you're more fan of
End Of An Era feel free to replace
Chronostorm by it
Mistveil Drake takes an open space: feel free to replace it by any solid spire drop if you wish (like Petra,Wingbrewer,Helio,... you have a lot of choices ^_^)
If you liked my deck feel free to post a comment and I will maybe post some more idea like a tesseract endra deck that i've been working on. I really would like any thoughts on it (or even people that tested it in high rank as i'm not a rank player myself)
EDIT: toyed a little bit with
Shimmerpack and it felt underwhelming. It feels more like a win more card as it isn't really good as a topdeck and doesn't bring anything except big stats when you already have a good enough board. Stampede alone is often enough in those cases.
Changed the
Gentle Grazer because it was not so good to play a 3 cost card that could play seek power, alchemist or merchant in a lot of cases (15 cards of 50) (plus his corrupt effect is unplayable at 5 mana with this deck). Replaced it with
Mistveil Drake because
Tl;dr aegis is great,it blocks relic hate or early damages spells and aegis on the card allow us to don't fear so much board wipe like harsh rules.
So it could be in it because it's a 4 mana 8/4 that obviously transform all the list little token and weak creatures into other 8/4 allowing a finish the turn after (or the same turn if you have the mana for stampede).
About why i didn't put it in the deck let me summarize my opinion of it:
Pros:
- It's another win condition for the deck
- it's a pretty solid body by itself and can silence ennemy units whenever needed
- It's not suppressed by relic hates like Supply Lines (being our only card in the deck able to generate big stats)
Cons:
- It could make the deck less stable (putting to 6,7 or even 8 with Unraveler the number of cards that needs a board to be useful with not so much way to flood it apart from arach and free cards like emeritus or merchant)
- There is not so much good target for it's effect (a lot of the cards in the deck having pretty insane effect by themselves like Bordercout, Emeritus, or even Snapyx)
- It cost 4 mana (10 mana is necessary to combo it with Deafening Stampede assuming there is already a good board. This situation alone is often enough to allow stampede to finish the game without the need to add Shimmerpack.).
- We don't really need another win condition as,apart from aggressive deck, the hardest match up would be a relatively fast paced deck with relic hates AND solid flying units. The three conditions altogether happens to be really rare in throne.
In conclusion, you could try it for yourself and I won't say it's a bad idea.
What could be a good way to put it, would be to replace Gentle Grazer (gentle being the "worst" card of the list imo) with 2 or 3 copies of shimmerpack (4 would be too unstable i think) and putting the rest as other copies of Seek Power and Desert Alchemist (allowing the deck to have even less early problem that it has now).
Honestly i'm digging the idea and i will try it before judging too soon. I'll post a feedback of it in deck infos later.
