For those that have already off and on followed this deck yes, I wiped and redid the overview here.
The concept here is still pretty straightforward. The only unit in the main deck is
Wasteland Broker. I switched WB into the main deck quite a few edits ago to counter
Darktalon Wyvarch. This card singlehandedly destroyed previous versions of this build because it was unitless.
The one thing I can’t stress enough is this is control. You don’t efficiently play control by wiping the board every time a unit sticks. You have options upon options for unit removal. You have the 2-cost “soft” wipe
Saloon Massacre, which counters quite a lot of unit rush. You have another hard wipe at 4 power
Nothing Remains which counters rush builds and anything that recurs units. You still have the classic hard wipes
Harsh Rule and
Shen-Ra Speaks. Frankly, you have board wipes for days. Still, play smart. Wipe the board when it reaches and uncontrollable state (your life gain can’t keep up and your life total is nearing critical levels, they have a must-be-answered threat, etc.).
Our power draw just got better with the release of Unleashed.
Diamond of the Valley both serves as draw progression AND accelerates our power base and IF they kill it, free 7 life. It’s honestly lovely. DotV is another
Dichro's Ruin trigger and in combination with
Arcane Restraint and
Meditative Trance, also a
Mask of Torment trigger. Jury is still out with swapping 1 or more
Pinnacle of the Reach for more
Diamond of the Valley so if you guys try it before I do let me know how it goes.
So on to the bigger changes.
Reset the Day made it permanently into the market. Having more 7-draws is just too good to pass up. I kept
Lumen Reclaimer and
Passage of Eons because 1: games might go longer than anticipated and we NEED our board wipes and 2: PoE is vital against any kind of mirror-match relic-draw-gain-life-kill build. Apologies I know I said changes plural, but that was the only real major change.
As a random sidenote I’ve considered
Display of Realities against mirror-matches and
Display of Survival against relic hate, and I very nearly included the second one in this update (would be swapped for
Incineration from market, or for a board wipe in main deck. If swapped for a board wipe, the board wipe would replace
Incineration. I know it’s a really fun way to win, but winning would still be important). It remains to be seen if all of the added relic hate from Unleashed will see ranked play though, and I didn’t want to nerf the build’s overall power for a hunch.
As always down here (: thank every single one of you for playing my deck. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I’m sincerely looking forward to hearing from all of you in our new meta again! You’re all awesome and your comments/feedback is much appreciated! Enjoy!
Seems to be limited ways to deal with Darktalon Wyvarch which can be a definite turn 4 game ender if they run it. Or would Pyrotech Explosion be a better fit? Or is it just that it's such a random card that hardly sees play, that it would make more sense to scoop and move on when it shows early on? I have thought about Waylay as well
I also wonder if running beacons are better than baubles here.
A)Why not Shen-Ra speaks over Fall to Ruin? Triple Dark seems like a rough grab in this deck, double justice & time seems more likely, plus the silencing helps w/some sticky creatures. Plus, you can re-tool the mana base to focus less on Dark mana, given that no card will require more than 1.
B)With Mori, going from 4 to 6 power in a turn doesn't seem overly valuable, especially given that you'd have to skip turn 4. Instead, perhaps run Coveted Gemstone so turn 3 can jump into 5 (so, turn 4 Harsh rule for example) and then you gain access to a market where you could house a few random tricks? I understand it doesn't fuel the mana, but shaving off the Fall to Ruin could work?
C)With access to a market, perhaps shave off a Black Manacle or two and then play some recursion in the sideboard if they have enough tricks to deal with your targeted relics?
I also found that Wrath of Caiphus might be overall better than Seek Answers. Granted, it doesn't draw the extra non-power card, but in the mid/end game it can be a closer doing 7-21 damage fairly easily.
Mask of Torment was already mentioned on here and jives well with the deck theme, and provides an alternate win condition.
Eremot's Designs could also be an option as I think the deck's biggest weakness is rush decks and having two extra wipes for them can't hurt.
But other than that, looks solid. I will say when I was originally running this, I never considered Auric Runehammer and that closes so many issues for the deck, I'm tempted to start piloting this again. As I've reached Masters in Expedition & Draft, Throne is the one I haven't picked off and this might be an avenue for that. I've grown bored of Sling anyway. :)
