My most recent brew - a combo/ramp deck for Expedition (Echoes of Eternity)! Been having a lot of fun with it in Diamond rank and looking to spread the good word of the
Pale Rider's Timepiece.
The game plan:
Removal and setting up tokens early game. If you can play a
Mask of Torment or
Nahid's Distillation on 4 you should be in a pretty good position. Your bread and butter combo is
Display of Destruction sacrificing into either
Kairos, Grand Champion or
Pale Rider's Timepiece with spellcraft, which usually wins you the game. If you can get
Pale Rider's Timepiece on a cultist with
Karvet, Solar Dragon on your side of the board you should also be in a really good position.
Market:
Ark of Sol - Just a great card for any deck playing cultists. Gives you a little bit of health, which synergizes with
Mask of Torment, but more importantly helps you ramp a little and fix your influence.
Disjunction - Great against both skycrag dragons, FTJ Armory and to fetch your
Mask of Torment or
Pale Rider's Timepiece in longer, grindier games.
Eremot's Designs - Really good against Elysian Fliers and the occasional Argenport Unseens. I feel like this card is almost a must shadow decks with 2-cost markets.
Vara's Favor - Really wanted to fit this into the deck but I couldn't find the space. Gets your
Mask of Torment stacked up, fixes your influence for
Pale Rider's Timepiece and pings occasional threats.
Worthy Cause - Mostly for removal, but also has some potential in saving you vs aggro or stacking up your
Mask of Torment vs control when decimated.
Other thoughts:
I feel like
Sear is just too good not be played; the fact that it also hits sites has saved me many times. Other potential choices for the market include
Edict of Shavka,
Unmake,
Devour,
Cull the Deck and
Purify. Would probably replace
Vara's Favor with one of these if I could fit it into the main deck. The flexibility of
Display of Destruction is amazing for this deck since every option does something that you want to do: removal + gain life, develop tokens or ramp. Use it wisely depending on what deck you're against. Also playing
Nahid's Distillation for 4 and exhausting a token is something you should do every time you can for its insane value.
Calibrate,
Destruction Chant and
Strange Burglar are also a high contenders for the deck, but I don't know what to remove for them to fit in the list.
Exchanged Cards:
The Merriest Mandrake for
Ark of Sol - Mandrake was only there for activating
Mask of Torment. It usually didn't come into play, and
Ark of Sol just felt like an overall more reliable option.
