Theme :
The Great Rift
Besides going for 5 faction greed pile powerbases, another way to play
The Great Rift is to cheat it out or to splash it using influence generating cards which are mostly seen in Time. Notably,
Reap and
Memento Mori generates all 5 Factions required for
The Great Rift. Therefore, an obvious way to do it is to play a Time Midrange shell for the deck.
Talking about
Reap, it has quite a good synergy with Surge effects, notably
Svetya, Lightbringer and
Genetrix Irel, Wayward. On the other hand, there also used to be a combo with
Silvercrest Purifier,
Reap and
Savagery. And coincidentally, one of the Site Agendas for
The Great Rift is
Savagery. This gives the idea of a Combrei Midrange deck incorporating the Purifier combo in the market. (through
Fair Exchange)
The deck aims to get early ramp for either the
Silvercrest Purifier combo or big units like
Worldbearer Behemoth, another game-winning synergy is
Svetya, Lightbringer into
Reap for a mega team buff to your deck. The deck is also splashing for
Xulta Arcanum since it synergises well with out other cards.
The flex spots are the early drops,
Diana, Faith's Shield and
Binding Agreement. You can consider cards like
Marshal Ironthorn,
The Creation Project and
Moonstone Vanguard.
Now, in terms of how effective it can be, I'm skeptical. Other than the Purifier combo (which can be achieved without Rift), why are we using Rift? It seems our cards exist to enable Rift, but not to benefit from the presence of Rift.
It seems that a more streamlined Surge deck would probably be more consistent.
The idea behind it was to "cheat out" the site since it is a very impactful play against most decks and fills a lot of important roles with only 1 card. You now don't need to run "Mediocre" cards like Sabertooth Prideleader, Twilight Hunt, and Shrivel is an unconditional kill spell against most decks, and when it doesn't impact like against Sling of the Chi or control decks, Ruin and Protect are good spells, note that Protect be used to pop enemy face aegis. In general, I believe that the addition of the site fixes some major matchup problems for the combrei midrange deck, and the spots of utility cards that are replaced by Rift can be further used as anti-aggro tools and combo pieces which provide more axes and versatility to the deck.
