Hit rank 1 today, the winrate has been incredible. So far, the only <50% MU has been
Kira Ascending, but even then we're still ~35-40% thanks to all the
Snowballs and
Hailstorms. The deck is extremely light on win conditions, so most games we win by just running the opponent out of cards (and then attacking with random
Jotun Hurlers and
Xo of the Endless Hoards). Don't be afraid to use
Dazzle to stun the opponent's units - every turn you stall for is another turn you can spend playing card advantage spells. Also, when in doubt over what to tutor for with
Garden of Omens, just go for
Honor of Claws. It's the correct choice 90% of the time.
Unorthodox Includes:
Know When to Hold 'em: Awesome card for this deck. You get to choose between two of your best cards (
Jotun Hurler and
Xo of the Endless Hoard) and draw whichever one is best in your current situation. More importantly, extra fate cards means we can play 16 pitch cards (4
Strategize, 4
Dazzle, 4
Howling Peak Smuggler, 4
Honor of Claws) without running out of discard fodder.
Dazzle: Maindeck counterspells are usually pretty abysmal in control decks, but they're basically required in the current meta to deal with reanimator.
Dazzle allows us to play 4 maindeck answers to
Grasping at Shadows while still having a good card in other matchups.
Dazzle's plunder makes it a good draw at practically any stage of the game. In the earlygame you can pitch fate fodder for a sigil, while in the lategame you can pitch power for a
Treasure Trove. Not only that, but it's also perfectly respectable to point this at a unit. In fact, I find myself using this on units about as much as I use it on spells. As long as you buy some time, you can cast a ton of card advantage spells from your hand and eventually find some hard removal. Oh yeah, and it's great at protecting
Garden of Omens.
Clan Standard: It's important to be playing power every turn, so a depleted power that stops being power on 5 is quite awkward. That said, fast removal is extremely valuable for this deck. It also means we can play lots of sigils to ensure we hit our early power drops without flooding in the lategame.
Turn to Seed (Market): Amazing answer to large threats like
Rost, the Walking Glacier. Also gives you some more options against reanimator as you can nab one of their fatties. If you hit a merchant with this you can lock them out of their market. I'm still not 100% sold on this card, but it has been quite useful so far.
Questionable Excludes:
Transpose: I absolutely despise this card. You're literally spewing away a card for practically nothing. That said, I also understand that it's extremely strong in some situations. Fast speed aegis that also pops the opponent's aegis and markets is quite a lot for just 1 power. Unfortunately, if you build a market full of 4-cost spells you won't be able to get anything if you have a
Garden of Omens in play - the cost reduction applies to the spells in the market, so they'll end up costing 3 instead of 4. I also really don't want to cut
Obstructive Flicker from the market. That said, you could definitely run a 1-of
Transpose to tutor for with garden - as long as you have a
Garden of Omens in play,
Transpose can get either
Prodigious Sorcery or
Savage Incursion.
Royal Decree (Market): Decree is absolutely miserable against
Transpose, and it's rarely needed against decks that don't play transpose. If we need to disrupt some kind of combo,
Obstructive Flicker is usually a better option, and if there's a problematic unit we want to deal with, then
Turn to Seed does the job.
I've been away from Eternal for over a year and recently started playing again. It makes me extremely happy that spellcrag is still a good deck. Good luck in your games to you all!
Thanks for sharing, much appreciated! I enjoyed a similar Skycrag spell deck when I first started playing (maybe that was yours as well?) and I am enjoying this one for reliable Throne wins.
I have been trying to get to Masters, last month with a great Krull/discard deck that is now quite nerfed so switching here. I am learning you have to play with each faction/combo. for a while to understand it, and then do that with ALL the factions to understand how to beat different opponents.
