Update 1/15: So it looks like Arcade beat me to the punch with this deck:
Pinnacle of the Meme. Anyway, I think it's fair to say that splashing Justice for Harsh Rule and 12 Cylixes is worth it. Not to mention that we can take out bad cards like
Solar Blast. So here's my revamped version that admittedly just steals a bunch from Arcade.
The big differences are the addition of
Stormhalt Knife because this is just one of the best relics in Throne period. And adding the
Great Valley Smuggler so that I can keep
Talir's Unwinding in the market. Honestly, once you get a
Dichro's Ruin in play, between the Unwinding and
Wrath of Caiphus, you can end the game pretty quickly. That being said, the fundamental weakness of the deck is it's dependence on
Dichro's Ruin, so for that reason, maybe it is just a really powerful meme deck. It's still good enough for top 100 masters right now though.
I played against a couple different versions of this idea, but the only one I found posted is Honza's deck
Auralian Unitless Control.
I think this archetype is still being refined and has some potential, so I wanted to share my improvements to see if that can spark some interest. This deck relies on the synergy between 3 cards primarily
Dichro's Ruin,
Mask of Torment, and the new
Pinnacle of the Reach. Basically with these cards in play, you automatically draw deeper into the control strategy, burn and heal from your opponent, and ramp to the moon. Since this is a relic deck, other cards are also essential,
Arcane Restraint is a decent control tool and heals for Mask synergy.
Calibrate and
Display of Knowledge are relic draw and tutor.
Wrath of Caiphus is power draw and late game combo-finisher to cause your opponent to draw 7 cards with Ruin in play. All of these cards are 4 ofs, so what does it leave?
I feel like this deck struggles most against aggro (ironic since it is a control deck). Against other control decks, the late game value and healing is too much for them to ever overcome, they just don't have the burst. Meanwhile, every additional turn stacks against them. Therefore, I leaned hard to fight aggro using 3
Eremot's Designs and 4
Hailstorm.
Solar Blast still feels necessary since we don't have
Harsh Rule. I opted for
Vine Grafter for the market because I wanted a Shadow market, and having a copy of
The Merriest Mandrake can be a win condition when paired together with Mask.
Talir's Unwinding is also a critical late game win con that was missed in the original list.
Overall, this is an interesting new archetype that hasn't been explored, so let me know what you think.
