The combo is
Severin of the Dark +
Reap. That will create five 3/1 with Haste and Lifesteal on turn 6... dealing 15 damage and oftentimes just winning the game right there. If not, going from 15-20 health up to 30+ means you are very likely to win.
I went 15-13 at
ECQ: Dead or Alive. 5 of the losses were absolute punts - games a better player would have won. The deck was good enough to make day two.
Of those 15 wins, I won via combo nine times, with the combo almost always coming during turns 6 to 8. I played it two other times and didn't win -- my opponent played
Annihilate in response to Reap to ruin one game, and I didn't do enough damage early for the combo to win in the other.
Evenhanded Golem should be banned. But until it is, it's going to be abused in Throne and this deck tries to do that. Here are some of the subtle tricks:
* Reap on turn 4 then play
Ubsat the Savior. You don't usually want to do this, but if you are in the mirror, the first Ubsat wins. It is oftentimes the right play even not in the mirror, just to get a big body out with some incidental health gain. You can't wait until turn 6 to combo out against a dedicated aggro deck.
*
Endless Nightmare and
Xenan Initiation. Sometimes you are the control deck, against other midrange decks. In order to win on turn 6 you need two Reaps or to have done 10+ damage early. Sometimes you won't get the chance, so you need to pretend you are a control deck for a while. Endless Nightmare killing a creature for free every turn is not your main path to victory, but I stole some games this way.
*
Wasteland Broker is going to get nerfed. It will end up costing 5, just so it can't go into EHG decks. In the meantime, use it to opt into other win conditions.
Doing this means your main combo is less likely to happen! So use this wisely. My market isn't ideal: I only grabbed Dread once and it didn't show up. I almost always grabbed
Silverblade Menace.
*
Azindel, Revealed won me two games and lost me two games. (Lost by being stolen from market and played against me.) I don't know if I want to keep it in the market. =/
* Against aggro, play
Curtain Call on turn 3 even with only one creature. It's that important. You need the lifegain. Just get creatures out for the revenge effect to maximize it later.
(My other losses: Three were to land screw. Two were to
Trickshot Ruffian without me being able to
Annihilate in response. I was outplayed the other three times.)
Feedback welcome. Trail Maker was useful in some games and utterly dead most of the time. Desert Alchemist was the escape valve I never really wanted to play, but it earned its place. What would you change? How would you make this market better?
+ Amethyst Waystone, - Amber Waystones
+ Devotee of the Sands, - Endless Nightmare
+ Xenan Banner - 2 Shadow Symbols, - 2 Time Sigils
So far so good...
