I got into a protracted grindy game against a
Worldpyre deck and I knew I needed to get in on it!
I've been testing it for both Throne and Expedition, but have found the Expedition version easier to brew.
The game plan is to survive and get a
Worldpyre into play, then start playing game ending spells like
Aid of the Hooru,
Moment of Creation and
Channel the Tempest out of the market. Cards like
Defiance,
Shen-Ra Speaks and even
Sol's Rest can help you survive.
Desert Alchemist fills this role and fixing power where you need it, don't be afraid to use it or
Gleeful Firebrand to turn payoff spells into power if you need it, you have plenty! This is where
Volatility comes in, it sometimes misses, but often draws plenty of cards. An important one being
Wrath of Caiphus, so
Volatility can fix your power too.
There's more testing to go, so we'll see how it goes!
So your gameplan is to get Worldpyre up. And what if you don´t get it in time, how do you plan to play the control game.
How I see it is basically win with ridiculous worldpyre combos, thus ramping out some things far too early. And basically relieing of your opponent not being heavily aggressive. Its not a control because it loses to any deck that pressures you hard enough to not have time to search for Pyre.
Also the lack of reactive plays make this deck more of a combo, ramp, midrange greed pile than an actual control deck.
From the perspective of what defines a control deck this is not a control deck, it lacks the reactive plays of actually denying your opponent a board, or slowing him down in what he wants to do. The whole deck is build around getting to Worldpyre and that seems to be the only goal the deck has, not controling the game or board. Which would not define it as a control deck. Volatility does nothing for you to actually control, so does Calibrate or Wrath, those are utility cards to find Worldpyre fast. Which makes controlling the game not the main thing but resembling the combo to blow your opponent out of the game.
But nontheless a cool deck, but remove the control tag please.
