Card justifications:
Starting with power:
Crests are so good in general that if you have them (I lack the mystery ones) use them. Otherwise try and blend some multifaction power in with your sigils. Diplomatic Seals don't fair well here imho. My preference is 2 crests (1 of each) and a sigil to get you to 3 power. With the discount added in this might change but I doubt it.
removal options:
As it turns out I don't have 4
Banish at the moment but they seem fairly good except when your op is playing 5+ cost cards so maybe not having 4 is OK.
Feeding Time is essential and
Cirso's Cleaver would be great too as an additional feeding time (6 for +3, killer and a feeding time? Sign me up!) I lack them and it's a legendary so might not be worth crafting just for an event. (It is a wickedly good item anyway but kinda of niche normally.)
Display of Knowledge is an interesting modal card. I chose to put mine in the market because while it IS good it isn't strictly removal. It does have other applications (and is the reason for the 1 Eye of Winter) so it should never be a dead card. But 4 would be excessive and you need something with punch to grab from your Market on occasion. More on the Market in its own section.
Rindra's Choice is a great card in this format as it should never be entirely useless even if your op has no units at the moment. BUT it is hard to test with because the restriction is usually not good in normal testing. So the thing to keep in mind is I subbed in
Amaran Camels for it. (They work nicely to keep you alive in the earliest turns before you get your scream units going.)
Units
Smugglers - both
Ebon Dune Smuggler and
Great Valley Smuggler serve as your tool box fetchers and their bodies make a difference. A turn 2 Smuggler could lead to a highly impactful turn 3. Note that these open Black Markets so your market is more strict than a simple mono colored merchant would allow.
Twilight Raptor- This early bird is a decent flying body for 1 (or 0 in this case) but it feels underwhelming if you don't draw one in your opening hand. And will definitely be easy prey for early removal. I did not include them in my test deck but I am on the fence about including them. They don't gain much from scream (2 damage charging hit and then they go away. Meh) So their main purpose is early fodder to get in quick hits and that seems unlikely to be good in the face of Rakano Whirling Duos etc.
Rindra, the Duskblade I can't emphasize how great this card is when it is screamed in and then a turn later dark returns to finish the job at +1/+1.
Vara, Vengeance-Seeker If defiance did anything broken Vara is it. Even more dangerous than the sites and more versatile than the markets. Lifesteal can turn a lost game around. She's not multifaction so no discount but imho that's not a real problem.
Cirso, the Great Glutton is a heavily impactful card when it attacks and moderately impactful as a defender (it really wrecks infiltrate dependent decks and does nasty things to warcry and lifesteal decks) Keep in mind most ops won't block him unless they have 3 units to throw away (because 3x2/2s to trade). That said, a well equipped enemy can put paid to him despite turning into a 2/2 pig. (BTW I love the greek mythos references of this card flavor wise.)
Amber Acolyte If I am running a deck that can pay Time, I tend to include this card even without a discount because fixing your colors and power and getting a 2/1 throwaway body is a good bargain. That said you might want to sub in the ambushing
Storm Lynx instead. At 1 mana cost (discounted) it can be a blow out vs an early aggro attacker.
Amaran Camel subbed in for Rindra's Choice. Not the worst 3 drop in the world. It is very good at stalling without even being available to do anything (such as being permafrosted.) 2 makes a slow beat drop to a crawl. Pretty sure these come out and stay out but not the worst substitute.
Nesting Avisaur Again this was in for testing purposes to help make Cirso screamable. And a 3/3 flier for 4 is not bad. 3 is even better. But it is also not all that impactful vs a more chunky board.
Dread is probably better (I have 0 so I was happy to use these instead.) Katra, The devoted is also a decent replacement. Though the TTSS might be tough for those two options.
Spells:
Haunting Scream give a unit charge, flying and let it come in and smack your opp (usually unopposed) for a turn is a deal with many possibilities.
Dark Return this card is what Scream is all about. Scream is a great card but by itself but gets better in synergy with DR. I almost put in some
Surgeon's Saws because DR is so good. But a full price spellcrafted saw at 6 power is a lot to ask from the deck.
Wisdom of the Elders was my no discount draw preference. I am not certain anything is better even with a discount. Though Xenan Augery certainly has its charm.
Auralian Cargo is an iffy card late game. Your choice of 3 random cards that might or might not be applicable may add an unpredictability to the mix you will find undesirable. On the other hand a 0 cost sigil fetcher is pretty good I think. Increasing the number of keepable hands is a good thing.
Excavate Sometimes I am not sure WHAT I want to get back from my void but I know I am going to want something. Excavate covers that flexibility but I don't want too many and it gets no help from the discount so just a 1 of. Could easily be replaced with something else. Also keep in mind it is not draw but card disadvantage and if you're in a hole, it might not get you out since it inhibits your draw for a turn. +2 life is just a bonus. Don't rely too much on it.
The (Black) Market
So
Display of Knowledge I discussed above. It is sometimes really useful to have one available in the market, searchable within a turn to use on an otherwise unstoppable foe.
Trail Maker is a decent way to increase your influence but my experience is don't count on it to keep your power up. That said it is a versatile choice for the market to fix your influence in a pinch.
Bannerman Which I included main deck is a good swap for this if you'd rather have 4 trail makers main.
Banish I covered above as well. I find it is a better tool than a 4 of but your mileage may vary.
Azindel, Revealed is 8 cost (or 7 in this format) and so not good as a more than one shot card. But that makes it perfect for a black market where you just need to punch through your ops defenses late game. Gives you some reach without being in the way.
Other notes:
To be honest Auralian would not be my first choice for this archetype because Fire offers much in the way of units and removal. That said, in testing this deck did fair pretty well in consistency and the smugglers were often clinch. Also there is no FPS cargo yet so there is that. being able to get your influence straight in the early game is important when you have double costs (Cirso for example with TTPP)
Overall I am not certain this kind of deck will be that competitive and you might be better just going as low to the ground as you can get.
CryLorenzo has a list somewhat more to that end.
