As a returning player, having not played since Defiance/Homecoming, I wanted to jump into Expedition due to the smaller card pool making it a lot less daunting to learn everything I've missed in Throne since my last ladder grind. After doing some research into the format, I wanted a deck that was resilient vs Hooru/TJP Control, but could also play well into Stonescar & Rakano Aggro - which is what led me to land on Argenport Midrange.
I don't claim this is the most optimal build, being light on resources I've had to take some liberties in what I could and couldn't include to some extent, but the list feels solid enough for me to recommend it. As far as card choices:
Sinister Rumors has been an extremely consistent performer, and is one of the reasons I wanted to play around with Argenport. The ability to remove
Harsh Rule or
Nothing Remains in the control match-up is huge. Against Aggro, its cheap removal and lets you potentially recycle a
Steyer's Eyes for healing later into the match. Against decks like Xenan, you tend to try and remove
Fall to Ruin or
End Of An Era, or failing that, their own copies of Rumors.
Steyer's Eyes,
Helena, Skyguide,
Scalesworn Patrol and
Furious Magniventris are unsurprisingly all absurd cards, and form the basis for pretty much every non-control focused Justice deck right now. The Green Dino is one of the most powerful midrange threats available, disabling a creature, attacking well, blocking well, healing you. It just does everything.
Jada, Peacekeeper is another fantastic midrange threat, providing a 5 health wall that accelerates you vs other Midrange and Aggro decks, or a 3 cost 4/5 beat-stick vs Control.
The Rat King has been another over performer in the deck, vs both Aggro and Control. The ability to pick off smaller creatures or pop aegis is phenomenal, but 5 attack on turn 3 across multiple bodies is great into slower control strategies.
Impending Doom is a choice that may catch some peoples attention, due to the fact it actively makes your Green Dinos worse by whittling away at the armor, but vs the other Aggro and Midrange lists currently on ladder, it frequently requires multiple cards to answer. Coupled with the pressure the Dino provides on the ground, it ends games very quickly and is somewhat underplayed at the moment in my honest opinion.
The last card I want to mention specifically is
Raniya, Wings of the Cabal. Currently only running a single copy, this might change though. Her primary role is dumpstering other midrange Justice creatures such as Magniventris and Helena. She also hits
Huntmaster Vikrum which can be game changing vs Xenan, as well as
Syl, No Regrets in the Stonescar match-up. Vs Control, she's a 5/3 flash flyer, which is frequently more than enough to close a game if you keep the mana open into a suspected Harsh Rule turn.
Finally, the removal suite is 3 each of
Victimless Crime and
Slay. There are other options such as
Suffocate and
Edict of Makkar, but the main downside is that neither are Fast, which is a huge deal in a format where
Inferno Phoenix is one of the most powerful top end finishers decks have access to.
