The main combo is ambush blocking with
Stormtamer's Mount to get 1 damage in. Then using
Divining Rod on it to summon some more dragons and give them all aegis. The average is about 1.3 fliers per rod (Scout / Excavate can improve this)
Tips:
-You tend to start off very slow, hopefully with a variety of crests and a sigil. You want to get your combo pieces together and to 5-6 power asap.
Equivocate,
Power Stone, and
Auralian Merchant are good cards to mulligan for.
-Use
Dragon Forge to tutor a cheaper
Divining Rod or whichever dragon you're in need of.
-
Try to hold off ambushing
Stormtamer's Mount until you have
Divining Rod ready for the next turn. If you can get a kill with it or block a large attack it's worth using earlier.
-Using a Crest before playing
Divining Rod will up your odds at hitting fliers. (
Excavate is obviously good before Rod too)
-
Eclipse Dragon is a great play if you have any of:
Dragon Forge,
Display of Instinct,
Equivocate, or
Stormtamer's Mount in hand.
-The deck plays
decently against the insane amount of Endra decks at the moment, through careful plays with
Poaching Drake,
Equivocate, and
Display of Instinct. (watch your opponent's open power closely)
Other thoughts:
-This deck suffers against pure aggro with good draws, due to all the high cost cards and no board wipes (except Molot). I haven't run into much of this lately though (possibly due to the Endra hype?) so it hasn't been a big problem.
-A unitless deck could also cause problems, with
Stormtamer's Mount being unable to get the 1 ambush damage in.
-It's been very strong against most midrange decks so far.
-I'd like to test out adding
Curiox, Insatiable Seeker but I don't have any copies yet.
have you considered skyfire dragon? stormtamer > rod > skyfire triggers mastery right away
