It occurred to me recently that
Spire Shadows is a relic now. You know who likes relics?
Rat Cage. That's usually as far as my thought process goes when I start brewing. This is more of a "for-fun" kind of deck than anything, but it's not too bad.
We're playing all the good Cage-adjacent relics, namely
Makkar's Quiver and
Rift Siphon to make some big rats.
Lethrai Courtier ramps us, Grumbo triggers the bolster on
Veli, Always Watching. Veli is unblockable, an excellent trait to have in a deck with Siphon. And of course,
Star-Reader Severin never goes away for long.
The big triggers off of Spire are
Arach, Razorshaper, who will play you a small Deadly army, and
Brood of Hecaton, which will draw you lots of cards while getting huge. Spire does also buff Courtier, Grumbo, and Veli, but not as much.
We've got a
Crack the Earth market here with some great tools, and the extra body can't hurt. Thanks to cost rearranging,
Eremot's Machinations can be even stronger in this deck.
Lurking Sanguar is free (just grab it before you swing!).
Finally, we come to the spicier stuff. I said Spire into rats was my only motivation before, but I lied a little.
Mogen, Demagogue is a card that immediately caught my eye in the Community Bundle, and he pairs beautifully with Spire. Going Spire Shadows -> Crack the Earth -> Free Mogen is just too fun. He is meant to be played late, and dropping him early on a go-wide board leads to HUGE units.
Finally, the always reliable
Rapid Development is another way to make huge rats, albeit one that actually costs 5. Go figure.
Lots to work with though.
Do you add Dran and bolster triggers to pair with Grumbo’s?
Nahid’s Faithful is a great Machinations target, is a cultist for ark, and triggers bolster if we want. He also eats rats. Gets worse w/ spire though.
Tasbu gives us some late game draw power if we can hit 5 shadow.
For now the only change I made was swapping Veli for 3/1 unblockable lifesteal Deleph.
Board clog in a can.
