This is an edit of
Slumbering Lumen, so thanks to s1113950 for the inspiration! I loved screwing around with it in gauntlet and wanted to make it a little spicier and include a
Moldermuck combo. What was originally intended to be jank actually turned out to be a pretty consistent gauntlet performer with even more absurd board states.
Combo: Have
Moldermuck,
Spiritweaver, and
Katra, the Devoted on the board. Gain life somehow to boost
Moldermuck up to 5 health to give it lifesteal. Attack with
Moldermuck, and keep attacking with all of his clones until opponent = dead. You definitely don't need to hit the combo in order to win, but it is incredibly satisfying.
Spiritweaver is better than
Xenan Lifespeaker for this combo, as there are so many other sources of lifesteal in the deck to boost your
Moldermuck to 5 strength. Plus, it gives power fixing which is occasionally necessary.
Huntmaster Vikrum is flexible as a market card, I could see
Banish,
Xenan Temple,
End Of An Era or
Supply Lines in its place depending on your removal needs and how hard you want to lean into
Moldermuck combos. I just like stealing big units sometimes.
Random notes:
Generally it is a good idea to play
Meditative Trance before
Katra, the Devoted, as Katra is much more likely to survive if she is buffed to 4 health on the opponents turn.
Generally it is a good idea to try and gain health the turn you play
Beckoning Lumen, so if it is taken out by removal you still gain value with a card draw.
Saloon Massacre is almost always worth keeping in hand. Early game you can wipe a board full of smaller threats if you have a slow start. Late game you can clear the board for your attacking units (especially useful against decks with deadly units).
Be careful with
Spiritweaver against the Burn Scars boss. The interaction with Spiritweaver and decay is currently bugged (and has been for a while now), and units with 5+ strength and lifesteal granted by
Spiritweaver will NOT gain you life if they are taken under 5 strength by a blocker with decay (despite the lifesteal animation showing). Watch out for it, because it's almost cost me a couple games against that boss.
Example of the above bug: 5/5
Moonstone Vanguard attacks, is blocked by a 1/1 unit with decay.
Moonstone Vanguard does 5 damage, is now 4/4 without lifesteal. Lifesteal animation shows on the attack, but no health is gained.
That being said, the card advantage of Water of Life would definitely be useful for the reasons you mentioned, and it would be nice as another way to trigger Beckoning Lumen's ability, potentially netting you 2 extra cards over 2 turns if you have no other sources of lifesteal. With the lower cost, it's definitely a solid addition to the deck.
I could see it being a worthy replacement for at least 2, if not all 4 of them. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll have to try it out.
