Hello again, this month this Xenan Deck got me to masters in Throne.
The goal is to get 5-8 Power asap to play the big threats of this deck. After some days of trying this setup got me the sweet 15-5 run in the last 20 games!
How to get Power:
We got
Xenan Blueprints, which gives a nice relic as well,
Devotee of the Sands (shift it!),
Exploit to destroy the enemies hand and
Call for Aid which also draws an additional card.
You can get away with only two power cards in your starting hand if you got 2 of these cards to ramp up to 5 Power by T3.
Whats the main goal?
Everyone who played
Azindel, Mastermind can confirm how nice it is to play a
Azindel, Revealed and an additional 8 Cost card from the enemy players deck by T4 or T5. And to be fair it happens more often then you might think! But a deck which only got this goal to win wouldn't get to Throne Masters.
We got a lot of removals against our sweet
Azindel, Mastermind and any spell reveals him, which means its only a 4,4 with lifesteal after that. So make sure to remove any of these threats with
Exploit or
Sinister Rumors and maybe play a
Devotee of the Sands without shift to trigger a removal if you got enough power.
Vara, Vengeance-Seeker and
Moldermuck are nice as well cause they trigger a lot of removal as well and can also help against aggro decks!
We want to build up our power to be able to play
The Speaking Circle and
Azindel, Revealed by our own without the help of
Azindel, Mastermind. Also don't forget the cards in the market which can win some games on their own as well!
Removals
I only used
Banish,
Express Route and
Vara's Authority because
Exploit removes big threats as well and most of the time I was able to build up a full board with large bodies faster then any enemy could make me want more removals.
The market
The two cards I've used most of the time are
The Last Carnosaur and
Fall to Ruin.
The Last Carnosaur is a great card to get in your deck by T3/T4 with
Wasteland Broker. It got the same cost as
Azindel, Mastermind which sometimes triggers Spells with 4 damage to go to waste and it turns your
Vara, Vengeance-Seeker,
Moldermuck,
Kerendon Merchant and Helici from
Azindel, Revealed into removals on their own. It also got a big body for a 5 cost card.
Fall to Ruin is self-explanatory, in our Power Curve you can play it early and turn around a game which seemed to be lost. If I got a great hand I sometimes even got it in the deck with
Wasteland Broker for security and in the lategame it is a winner on it's own by only killing the enemies units.
Waystone Core isn't that nessecary but can also help sometimes to get the power needed for the big guys.
Krull, Xumuc Occultist is nice to have, to play a 3-5 cost card from your void if you got 6-8 power but wasn't that important as you got
Sinister Rumors for that as well. (But playing an
Azindel, Mastermind from the void is pretty nice ;) ) You can also add
Ebon Dune Smuggler and play a
Azindel, Mastermind at the end of the enemies turn to trigger the effect instantly, but I decided to use
Kerendon Merchant for blocking and becoming a deadly killer.
D'Angolo Might can be swapped for any other card. I thought it would help to draw cards but in the end haven't used it once, cause
Scheme and
Call for Aid did a great job in drawing the cards.
I hope you have some fun with this decklist and am happy to read your feedback and experiences!
Good luck and see you in Throne ;)
“You can also add Ebon Dune Smuggler and play a Azindel, Mastermind at the end of the enemies turn to trigger the effect instantly”
I don’t believe you have a correct interpretation here … unless you are somehow granting ambush to Azindel in some sneaky way I don’t understand.
Ebon Dune Smuggler doesn’t work like Vine Grafter or Speed Grafter
That being said … it’s not in the deck… and the deck seems solid regardless … I just mention the oddity because it would be awesome to get ambush on Azindel, Mastermind
You play Ebon Dune Smuggler at the end of the enemies turn and draw Krull, Xumuc Occultist from your market. After that you can play Azindel and it instantly triggers on your turn.
That being said, this combination doesnt really happen that often. You need 8+ Power and an Azindel in your void. At this point in the game you want to use your power in your own turn most of the time.
But it is a nice flex to trigger Azindel instantly 😉
The whole comment was a head scratcher … thus my confusion and comment …
8 power (not all that impossible with other cards that could be in play)& 5life to sacrifice(without dying from Krull) to insta-pop flex Azindel all possible with a way stone core in play. Not to mention the opponent can’t have any fast card and power available which they could “stun,kill,1 damage” Azindel to bust the stealth and prevent the ultimate.
I originally typed a comment thinking the power would be 11… but that’s 3+8 for the “other” Azindel with the pair of unblockable dorks.
It's fun, but the fact you brought it to masters is more a testament to your skills as a pilot
(fyi i'm currently master in exped and have been master in throne recently) i probs went like 5-15, when the other throne decks i've been playing are giving me a good 2-1 ratio
