Something I always seem to be successful at- FPS control.
Calderan Cradle is present here but takes a bit more of a backseat role, which is why it’s FPS control and not Chaos Cradle.
I went with 2x
Cleave because the necessity for relic hate hasn’t become rampant as yet but
Dinosaur Nest requires a counter once it changes forms. If you let more than one sit on the board, those little guys become too big to easily handle.
Iadria, Twisted Brewer was an amazing addition for this deck, and combos quite well with both
Frostburn and
Saloon Massacre. You might take a hit here and there that you’d rather avoid, but dropping that health to 1 makes a pretty big impact.
As always
Plunk Wumpkin is a staple for any control build with Primal involved. He has aegis, smacks for 3 at a time, can’t be killed by chumps (1/1 units), and gives you a draw option fairly early at the cost of 2 debt. I went with
Wisdom of the Elders as well as
Direwood Hymn because frankly, you can never have enough draw power. Random sidenote:
Direwood Hymn is another spectacular addition for this deck; its ability to filter 3 at 2-cost is already good, and it tutors for anything if you run out of cards, expanding this deck’s toolbox ability a ton.
So basically, we play a double
Syl, No Regrets here with
Syl's Stronghold in addition to the normal card itself. The reason? Double damage and countering those pesky high-cost spells that could otherwise be the death of us. Go ahead, play
Flash Fire. By the time they have enough influence for it to be problematic, the 10 damage recoil they take will kill them, and it’s the same for opposing
Clash of Wills. Syl is honestly the best in format counter for other control decks, and for the preeminent burn build since seeing
Shavkan Dogma enter play.
As always for spell-centered or general control builds, getting added value from plays works wonders, and the
Invoke keyword goes a long way toward securing that added value. So we play 4x
Frostburn and 4x
Wrong Turn. The first deals damage and makes more cards, and the second can help wipe larger units after the smaller ones are gone, or help in dealing with enemy aegis.
Frostburn also as mentioned earlier can combo with
Iadria, Twisted Brewer to remove 2 units at once, and then still make another card.
Lastly,
Clash of Wills. I debated several other options including
Chirganth, Ice Regent,
Eilyn, Hand of the Tempest, and
Halotipped Spray. All of those are still cards I like, but there just wasn’t enough extra value from them without playing cards specifically for synergy with them, and overall made the build more clunky and less workable.
Halotipped Spray will still be tabled in case we see some heavier use of relics in the future, and can replace
Clash of Wills either on a 2/2 basis or if necessary, entirely. I went with CoW here because 1: you draw 3 cards and 2: because you’re still normally dealing 4-7 damage, and the extra 1-2 damage on average from Halotipped Spray wasn’t worth losing the extra draw power in what I’ve seen of our current meta play.
As always, I’ll leave the comments section open and welcome suggestions and feedback, and hope all of you enjoy my brainchild! Enjoy (:
I wrote off Calderan Cauldron when Dino Nest made people play relic hate. As well as Stormhalt Plating. And now Argenport Menagerie. Those usually at least get a turn of benefits before being smashed. Where playing Cauldren just feels like you're counting on your opponent to not have relic hate.
In last cycle I was using Petra. Shadow 5 cost inscribe unit. Pretty sweet.
With this deck I feel like it wants to play a tempo-y control until it can get the upper hand.
Main concern here are the best and most annoying cards: Battlefront Dasher, Plunk, Dino Nest, Poacher's Menagerie, Furious Magnaventris, and a few others. So you need many answers for these.
The relics: I haven't played cleave yet and dunno how I feel about it. I do love Bullseye, and I'm really warming up to Barbarian Guerrillas. Halotipped Spray looks cool. But I dunno if It's even playable here.
Plunk and Battlefront Dasher: Saloon Massacre is sweet in many situations. Not as much against these 2 cards. What you may need: a small relic weapon. Stonescar Bow is nice. Also, there is a new 3/1 double shadow cost one that can also go unblockable to kill their Stonescar bow if needed. Because Stonescar is a bit popular. Bullseye also hits faster AND can be used + Saloon Massacre to rid of a Furious Magnaventris you've got no other solution for. If you're desperate.
Furious Magnaventris is a bit tougher. Ideally, your 4 drops should do the trick. But maybe a copy or two of that kill a non hero shadow spell would be good? Or is suffocate still in? I dunno.
Also, Night Dojo worked out pretty nice for me in this deck pre Unleashed. And it's still in. Might be a good sub for Calderan Cradle.
I haven't used it yet, but that Feln Adept card looks pretty sick. Has done a lot of work against me. Might worke with this.
Just some card ideas. Nice deck!
1. it gets the buff first
2. Iadria give it one health
3. At end of turn for some reason it loses 1/1 for every valor that happened. So if you blocked with anything: it's dead. So long as it had valor.
So if you were thinking about Zido, or pulling grenedin chump blockers from inscribes - against valor doods - you could do that.
FYI.
